According to the legend, Murugan is married to two deities. The first one is Valli (she was found in a pit, dug out while gathering the edible tubers of the valli-plant), the daughter of a tribal chief and the second one is Deivayanai (also called Devasena), the daughter of Lord Indra. The two wives of Lord Murugan, namely Valli and Devasena refer to Icchha Shakti and Kriya Shakti, meaning the Power of Will and Power of Action respectively.

Lord Kartikeya is an embodiment of perfection, a brave leader of god’s forces,and a war god, who was created to destroy the demons, representing thenegative tendencies in human beings. . His vehicle is a peacock, apious bird that grips with its feet a serpent, which symbolizes the ego and desires of people.
